We can hardly live a perfect life, but we can live a surpassing one with the heavenly faith received through God’s grace. Through faith we will be able to turn our eyes from difficult circumstances and focus on who He is and what He has done. Once we turn our eyes back to God, our praise to Him will flow out of us naturally. However, it is usually not our habit to do so. We ought to exercise our will consciously and intentionally to praise Him. May the Spirit help us to proclaim His name and wonderful deeds, and “ascribe to Him the glory due His name”.

Month of Praising - Day 9

Psalm 57:7-11
7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, lute and harp!
I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing to You among the nations.
10 For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens,
And Your truth unto the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
Let Your glory be above all the earth.

Psalm 57 is one I really enjoy. David wrote the psalm as he fled from Saul in the cave Adullam (1 Sam 22:1, 24:3). David sought to be steadfast when the enemy chased him. As dark as the cave could be, David saw the heavens above clouds. As lonely as he was in the wilderness, he couldn't help praising the Lord and proclaiming his faith. What a glorious contrast!

The external circumstances can steal our strength to praise. However, the moment of difficulty is also the most critical moment for us to turn our heart to God, rest in Him and experience the spiritual liberation. "All things work together for good to those who love God". The Lord cares about about our hearts, and He knows how to lift up us from tough situations when we turn to Him. Indeed He lives above the heavens, and He also dwells in our hearts.
