We can hardly live a perfect life, but we can live a surpassing one with the heavenly faith received through God’s grace. Through faith we will be able to turn our eyes from difficult circumstances and focus on who He is and what He has done. Once we turn our eyes back to God, our praise to Him will flow out of us naturally. However, it is usually not our habit to do so. We ought to exercise our will consciously and intentionally to praise Him. May the Spirit help us to proclaim His name and wonderful deeds, and “ascribe to Him the glory due His name”.

Month of Praising - Day 16

Isaiah 12:1-6
1 And in that day you will say:
“O Lord, I will praise You;
Though You were angry with me,
Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me.
2 Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation.’”
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water
From the wells of salvation.
4 And in that day you will say:
“Praise the Lord, call upon His name;
Declare His deeds among the peoples,
Make mention that His name is exalted.
5 Sing to the Lord,
For He has done excellent things;
This is known in all the earth.
6 Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion,
For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!”

Israel longed to see the day of Jesus. In that day refers to the previous chapter’s proclamation of a coming peace when a shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse and the wolf will live with the lamb. Here Isaiah gives us a song of praise for the second Exodus which matches Moses’ from the first Exodus, even quoting Exodus 15:2 in verse two. He worships - Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and obey since just as with the defeat of the Egyptians, God again would move mightily to save his people from their enemies, reconciling back the exiles into right relationship with God Almighty.
It is in Christ that we know any separation, any anger, and any judgment has turned away. In its place we have the comfort of the Father, the friendship of Jesus, and the indwelling of the Comforter himself. Praise then to God - for who shall we fear if God is our salvation, if he is our strength and our song, and since he has done such glorious things for us. Isaiah beautifully and poetically praises the covenant faithfulness of God by repeating his covenant name in verse 2 to show the certainty of our salvation. Like wells that never run dry, our salvation does not expire and so with joy we draw on this day by day, in confidence and amazement, in thanksgiving, and in praise for the secured redemption and hope we have in Jesus Christ.

You don’t have to look far for a reason to praise the Holy One of Israel. The reason for our praise is God himself. Call upon his name. Sing to the Lord for he has done excellent things. Today let your worship be full of joy and done audibly so that those around can know of the Jesus who is the reason for this season and the reason for our praise.
