We can hardly live a perfect life, but we can live a surpassing one with the heavenly faith received through God’s grace. Through faith we will be able to turn our eyes from difficult circumstances and focus on who He is and what He has done. Once we turn our eyes back to God, our praise to Him will flow out of us naturally. However, it is usually not our habit to do so. We ought to exercise our will consciously and intentionally to praise Him. May the Spirit help us to proclaim His name and wonderful deeds, and “ascribe to Him the glory due His name”.

Month of Praising - Day 15

Day 15

這個讚美的詩歌被稱為 Magnificat(頌歌)。

Luke 1:46-55

46 And Mary said:
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”

What Spirit-led, beautiful and personal praise from Mary’s lips. It is the praise of a true believer who knows exactly how humble her life is and how exactly exalted is the Lord.  Are you moved to remember that this is praise coming from a young woman who knows that walking around pregnant outside of marriage could get her stoned and who knows that trying to explain such a miraculous birth could draw more than a few strange looks? She will face such hardship, yet this servant of God responds with praise.

All of the Lord’s promises for Israel’s salvation, and that of the world, narrows down and down to the life of a single Jewish girl in a forsaken little town. God is coming to save! Reminiscent of Moses’ and Miriam’s songs of the Exodus, Mary’s spirit rejoices for God’s holiness and mercy manifest in His powerful deliverance of the lowly which scatters the proud but does great things for those who fear Him.

The God who has been working generation to generation with this same steadfast mercy and faithfulness, will now fulfill the promise spoken to Abraham. All nations will be blessed through Israel. The world’s mightiest will fall. Its lowliest will rise. The hungry will be filled with good things. The thirsty will be satisfied with living water.

This praise is known as the Magnificat. Let the Spirit lead your soul to magnify the Lord as you personally remember God’s faithfulness, Christ’s salvation, and all of the specific ways God has been so good to you and your family. My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.
